In the Fall of 2000 I started my first jewelry company (quite by accident). I decided to make wine charms for Christmas presents. As I was getting the supplies I would need, I kept coming across beautiful beads. I decided to buy a few and make some jewelry as well. People kept commenting on how much they liked my jewelry, so I decided to make a few more pieces. A few more pieces, turned into several. My friend Karen hosted a jewelry party so I could sell the jewelry I had been making. The party went well, and several people asked if they could have a jewelry party too.
The next thing I knew, Joolz by Kelly, was born. I did jewelry parties every week, creating hundreds of pieces of hand crafted, sterling silver jewelry mixed with Swarovski crystals, German vintage glass and lamp work beads.
As the business grew I hired friends (thank you Karen, Gina, Julie and Helen) to keep up with the demand. Even with the extra help, life started getting a bit too crazy! In 2005, I decided it was time to return to being a full time mom to my three young children. I knew I could always go back to making jewelry, but my kids would only be young once.
With my youngest off to college, I decided it was time to start a new jewelry company. I am beyond excited that it will be earth friendly and give back a portion of it's profits to others in need. I spent four years training to be a metalsmith (though this will definitely be a lifetime of learning) to prepare for this new adventure. I have had the opportunity to learn from many different teachers and Masters. I am deeply grateful to all of them for sharing their years of experience and knowledge with me. And a big thank you to Metalwerx for providing a warm and caring community in which to learn.
Last, but not least, I am deeply grateful to Andy, the love of my life, who has been a huge supporter of all my creative endeavors! And an even bigger thank you, for helping with all of the nitty, gritty business details that bore me to no end. I just want to make jewelry!!!
